QUALITY CONTROL

Regenco welcomes third party testing to ensure our products are within your specifications. We also perform our own quality control tests, the methods of which are discussed briefly below. Received and Dry Apparent Density (AD), Moisture Content, Iodine Capacity Number and Heat-of-Immersion tests will be provided free of charge. Additional testing such as the hardness test, gas-phase adsorption, scanning electron microscope (SEM) for Small Pore Size Distribution and Pore Volume Analysis, etc. can be requested; these tests will be incorporated in the final pricing.

GRANULATED ACTIVATED CARBON TESTING

Determination of Iodine Number (ASTM D4607) - included test

This test method determines the relative activation level of unused or reactivated carbons by adsorption of iodine from aqueous solution. The amount of iodine absorbed (in milligrams) by 1 g of carbon using test conditions listed herein is called the iodine number. The typical range is 500 mg/g to 1,200 mg/g, which is equivalent to surface area of carbon between 900 and 1,100 m2/g.

Moisture content of activated carbon (ASTM D2867) - included test

This test method determines the moisture content of the activated carbon.

Physical Properties: pH and Apparent Dry Density (ASTM D3838 and ASTM D2854) - included test

The determined value of pH for the activated carbon indicates if acid from the chemical/thermal activation process is left over. We wash the activated carbon with distilled water to ensure a neutral pH. Dry Density can provide insight on the percentage of spent activated carbon without chemical testing.

Ash Content (ASTM D2866) - optional

This test method determines the amount and composition of the ash that may influence the capabilities and certain desired properties of activated carbon.

Methylene Blue Test - optional

This test method determines the amount of Methylene Blue dye adsorbed by the activated carbon.

Total Ash (ASTM 2866) - optional

This test method determines the amount of total ash in a batch sample.
